In this episode:

  • What we’ve discovered as the seven leading-edge workplace trends that really every leader and listener need to hear (02:35)
  • Number 1: The “Great Resignation” will cause organizations to fight to attract and retain top talent (02:57)
  • A Gallup survey says 48% of employees are actively looking for a job or willing to consider a new job (03:07)
  • The Great Resignation is not a pay problem! (03:49)
  • Clearly, there is a war for talent, both to attract new people and to retain your best performers.   (04:17)
  • Gen Z is at risk and will need to be reenergized (04:49)
  • Number 2: Employee Compensation and Well-Being Will Be Key Issues for Leaders to Solve in 2022 (06:45)
  • As we look at BCWI’s database, one theme that pops out is that issues related to employee compensation and well-being are increasing. (07:04)
  • Increasing gaps between industry and non-profit compensation as corporations increase entry-level pay. (08:42)
  • New research from Oracle finds that 88% of workers feel the meaning of “success” has changed, and they’re now prioritizing work-life balance, mental health, and having a meaningful job over a steady paycheck. (09:21)
  • That’s why in 2022, people will no longer tolerate companies that treat them poorly, and they’ll hold employers to a higher standard than ever before (09:40)
  • Number 3: The skills of the front-line manager will become increasingly more critical to organizational effectiveness (10:58)
  • Recognition for doing a good job.  Employees are experiencing far less recognition than before COVID (12:10)
  • As we have re-discovered during COVID, it is the front-line manager that is the key link between the employee and the organization.  A strong connection is at the heart of retention. (13:42)
  • Number 4: A hybrid or remote-first approach will be adopted by many organizations (15:58)
  • Even as many ministries hoped to transition to a hybrid model in 2021, the emergence of the Delta variant put office reopening’s on hold.   (16:25)
  • In fact, research from WeWork found that 79% of the C-Suite will let their employees split their time between offices and remote working if their job allows for it. (17:09)
  • Number 5. Leaders are out of touch with employees and will increasingly rely on Engagement surveys and focus groups to gather employee input and feedback. (18:35)
  •  Ministries and organizations that don’t seek out or listen to their employee’ feedback will struggle to retain talent, at a time when workforce retention is key (18:52)
  • We recommend most churches, Christian non-profits, and Christian-owned businesses take a snapshot of their workplace culture and employee engagement at the same time each year. (20:28)
